Satellites

A satellite is otherwise known as a travelling companion so moon is a satellite even though we think of satellites as man made objects.

Both pictures are satellites but which one is more beautiful?
Don't get me wrong...scientists were very clever in inventing a man made satellite but I think nature is very capable of creating beautiful things that also serve a great purpose.

Earth

Looking at all the planets in the solar system, Earth is by far the most beautiful and fascinating planet.

Above is a picture of Earth and below is a picture of Mercury.
Which one do you think is more beautiful?
Uranus is also a beautiful colour but still it is boring being one colour where as Earth is a swirl of different shades of blue, white, green and many other colours.
It almost looks like Earth is a painting.

Discoveries

What could be out there? we are always discovering new things, think what we could have discovered in a million years?

Earth's size

Earth is one of the smallest planets and we think it is so big. We are actually minute in comparison to all the space out there.

Earth's revolution

Something which fascinates me is how fast we are actually moving!

Last night at the dinner table my dad brought up how fast a train called the Eurorail goes.

He said it travels at a speed of 400km/h. I then looked up how fast the earth revolves around the sun. It goes at a speed of 29km/s which is approximately 1740km/h.

It is very strange that we don't feel ourselves moving and this brings us to the thought of how small we actually are in comparison to the Universe.

It is also strange that it takes us so long to make one revolution when we are moving so fast and this shows how big the Sun actually is.

Life on mars?

It fascinates me to think that according to scientists there might have once been life on Mars. There could have been an ordinary world, just like ours. With animals, human like creatures and even some sort of technology.
Perhaps there was something which went wrong and everything died out or moved to Earth and now a world has started here.

A lot of space travel is for the purpose of finding an alternate Earth incase Global Warming gets too bad so maybe in millions of years there will be somebody like me who is writing about how there could have once been life on Earth.

Saving water...

When I was going through my EMS textbook the other day there was something that came up that really annoyed me!!!
Never mind everything else that is used to make gold, something I found astonishing was how much water was used!

To make one tiny ounce of gold-5000 litres of water is used!

Think of all the water we could save if we stopped making goldAdd Image...

South Africa is one of the only countries using gold to back up the paper note so why don't we switch to something different?
If we want to save water then that's a perfect place to start...

Someone did mention to me though that they could be re-using the water to make more and more gold but maybe we need to research that?

This just really annoyed me!
And nobody I spoke to really cared..
But this is serious because we can make a difference...
